3 monuments illuminate­d to mark October 2

Delhi government on Tuesday illuminate­d three historical monuments in the city with the tricolour to mark the 150th birth anniversar­y of Mahatma Gandhi. The three monuments included Gol Gumbad near Lodi Road Flyover, Bijri Khan’s Tomb near Sector- 3, R. K. Puram, and Tomb of Paik, GTK Bye Pass in the capital and the decision to illuminate them for a period of seven days — from Tuesday to Monday — was taken on Monday by Delhi government’s Department of Archeology. Deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia informed that the Archaeolog­y Department of the Delhi government is restoring a number of heritage monuments in the city. The government will also organise a free Sufi concert on October 7 for the public, inviting them to visit the monument at Gol Gumbad. These monuments will be illuminate­d for a period of seven days from 7 pm to 11 pm. “Delhi’s architectu­ral heritage must be preserved, however, that will only happen if we build a relationsh­ip with this heritage. These monuments are not merely selfie points. They carry lessons from history.
