Sharif: Name those seeking amnesty in graft cases
Pa k i s t a n M u s l i m L e a g u e ( N a w a z ) s u p r e m o Nawaz Sharif on Monday urged the government to reveal the names of the politicians who had allegedly sought amnesty in corruption cases.
Speaking to reporters here after appearing in a court, Nawaz Sharif said Prime Minister Imran Khan claims that some corrupt politicians want to strike a deal with him.
“If there are such people, he must reveal their names. The nation should know the truth,” he said.
In his video message on October 25, PM Khan made it overtly clear that no corrupt will be given any National R e c o n c i l i a t i o n Ordinance ( NRO) – referring to a deal struck by former military ruler Pervez Musharraf in 2007 with the politicians.
“They are trying to blackmail us. But if these parties want to protest, they’re more than welcome. We will give them container. We will also give them dinner every day but what we will never give them an NRO,” he clarified.
On absence from the country’s political landscape, Mr Sharif responded that he was passing through tough phase after sad demise of better half Kulsoom Nawaz. “Till now, we have failed to nudge ourselves back to political activities”, he added.
Mr Sharif regretted that he was serving jail sentence during last hours of Kulsoom Nawaz.
