Like Assam, implement NRC in Delhi too: Tiwari SIGNATURE BRIDGE ROW:

‘ Lakhs of Bangladeshi immigrants illegally residing in Okhla’

- SHASHI BHUSHAN

Alleging that lakhs of Bangladeshi immigrants were illegally residing in Okhla and his parliamentary constituency of Northeast Delhi, Lok Sabha member and Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari has demanded implementation of the national register of citizens ( NRC) in the national capital.

In this regard, Mr Tiwari has requested Union home minister Rajnath Singh for identification and deportation of each and every illegal Bangladeshi immigrant from the city by implementing NRC.

Mr Tiwari told this newspaper that he asked the Union home minister to start implementation of NRC from the Okhla Assembly constituency, which allegedly has the maximum population of Bangladeshis.

“I have requested Union home minister the for implementing NRC in the city. I will also write to him demanding the same. For the safety and security of Delhiites, it is important to send each and every illegal Bangladeshi back from the city. These illegal immigrants are involved in illegal activities, including running drug rackets,” Mr Tiwari added.

It is also learnt that Mr Tiwari had informed Mr Singh about the presence of a huge number of Bangladeshis illegally residing in areas like Okhla, Seelampur, Jaffrabad, and Mustafabad. The NRC or the list of Indian citizens is being first updated in Assam, one of the worst affected states owing to illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.

“I have demanded NRC to start from Okhla. AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan has been patronising illegal occupants in the area and even authorities are afraid of taking any action,” said Delhi BJP

president. The Delhi BJP president also announced that he will be staging a protest at DND flyway against illegal constructions and encroachment in Okhla on government land and at the Yamuna floodplain.

“One can clearly see multi- storeyed buildings

along the Yamuna floodplain in Okhla while crossing through the DND flyway. It is appalling that no action has been taken in this area. If these properties are not sealed or demolished, sealing drive will not be allowed in other parts of Delhi too,” he said.
