Auto driver shot dead near home

A 28 year- old auto- rickshaw driver was allegedly shot dead near his home in Krishna Nagar area of Shahdara district while he was returning from duty on Tuesday night.

The police said that the driver had dropped a passenger and was on his way back when he was stopped by two unidentifi­ed bike borne assailants who shot him from point blank. Police suspect personal enmity behind the attack.

“The deceased has been identified as Rohit, a resident of Geeta Colony area, who was an autoricksh­aw driver. He sustained a single bullet injury,” said Meghna Yadav, Deputy Commission­er of Police. The incident took place when Rohit was returning home after dropping

the passengers. The incident was captured in a CCTV camera, which was installed in the area, a senior police officer said.

The CCTV footage shows that two men on a bike came there and shot Rohit, the police said. Even his belongings were also found intact with him, said the police, adding that a case has been registered and a probe has been initiated. The police suspects personal enmity is the reason behind the killing as there was no attempt of robbery, Ms Yadav added.
