Dhillon commander of Chinar Corps

Srinagar: Lt. Gen. Kanwal Jeet Singh Dhillon on Saturday replaced Lt. Gen. AK Bhatt as the 48th commander of the Army’s Srinagarba­sed 15 Corps which is also called Chinar Corps. Earlier a “befitting” farewell was given to Lt. Gen Bhatt who has moved to New Delhi as military secretary at the Army headquarte­rs. A defence spokesman here said that Lt. Gen. Bhatt’s tenure saw many successful operations in which a record number of 259 militants including top commander were killed in one year ( 2018). He said, “His tenure saw neutralisi­ng of the highest number of terrorists in a year over a decade, wherein 259 terrorists were eliminated and other 64 local terrorists were neutralise­d through apprehensi­ons and surrenders” Lt. Gen. Dhillon was commission­ed in December 1983 and has had an illustriou­s military career spanning 35 years.
