FIFA gets street mode, New Star Wars game unveiled
EA introduces 3 indie games, Apex Legends to fix errors in Season 2
With the EA Play event, Electronic Arts unofficially kicked off E3 2019. Ditching its traditional approach, EA, known for its franchisee such as FIFA, Battlefield and Apex Legends, opted to run through a mix of games including new titles like Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
The show begun with the unveiling of the highly-anticipated Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. In the 15-minute gameplay video,
a Jedi-in-training, who wields a blue light saber, showcases what people can experience in the game. The game is set shortly after Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine grabbed power and formed the evil empire.
The announced was followed by news from Apex Legends and Battlefield 5. In Apex Legends, EA announced season 2, new weapons and a new character . It also promised to fix the errors that gamer faced in season 1 but stopped short of an apology. For Battlefield, the company introduced two maps as well as focused on Chapter V. The team are attempting to recreate the conflict of Iwo Jima. With that comes a new set of weapons and vehicles specific to that theatre of war.
The biggest news of the day was came from FIFA. The trailer focuses on Volta mode. Basically, EA is finally merging Fifa Street to the main. It will be interesting to see if FUT remains a popular choice after the introduction of Volta mode.
Moving on to indie games, EA Originals revealed three new games that are undergoing development. The first is called Lost in Random, and it’s developed by Zoink Studios, the team behind Fe. While details remains scarce, it is described as “a blend of strategy and action that explores the notion of chance and possibility, set within a beautifully dark and vivid world.”
The second game is a sci-fi action role-playing game called RustHeart. Players will take on the role of an explorer in an alien multiverse, and they are joined by a handmade robot sidekick. Lastly, Hazelight is also working on an unannounced game under the EA Originals banner. All three new games are slated for PC and unspecified consoles. Past EA Originals include the charming platformer Unravel along with the haunting Sea of Solitude, which launches on July 5.
