A 31-year-old man was allegedly shot dead by his neighbour over a petty issue. The incident took place on Saturday night at Central Delhi’s Karol Bagh area. The police has arrested the accused in just 12 hours after the incident.

The deceased has been identified as Mohit, a resident of Bapa Nagar in Karol Bagh. The accused has been identified as Kamal Chauhan (32), a good friend and neighbour of the deceased.

According to additional DCP Amit Sharma, a police control room (PCR) call regarding the incident was received at Prasad Vihar police station around 11.00 pm on Saturday.

“Acting on the information, an emergency response vehicle (ERV) was rushed to the spot. On reaching the spot, it was found that victim Mohit had sustained gunshot injury. He was rushed to BLK Hospital, where he was declared dead by the doctors,” said the DCP.

“The police registered a FIR at Prasad Vihar police station based on the statement of Mohit’s father and an investigation was initiated,” he said, adding that the accused Chauhan was arrested on Sunday afternoon while he was trying to flee from Delhi to Jharkhand in his car.

“During interrogation, the accused disclosed that he and Mohit had been close friends but had a fall out owing to some trivial issues between them. On the day of the incident, a heated argument took place between the two and the accused shot Mohit with his pistol in an alley near his house. Subsequently, he fled from the spot,” said the DCP.

“Police has recovered a country-made pistol, which was used in the crime, along with two live cartridges from the possession of the accused. Further investigation is going on regarding the case.
