Soon, sign-in to iCloud with Face ID, Touch ID
Few years ago, iCloud was subject to a major breach ■
Eagle-eyed Apple testers seems to have discovered a new sign-in process for iCloud on the web, reports 9to5mac.
For now, only beta testers of iOS 13, iPadOS 13, and macOS Catalina will be able to try out the new process that Apple is testing out. So, if you’re among those lucky few and don’t have any inhibitions about sharing your biometrics, then head over to beta.icloud.com on a device running the beta. Viola, the new option will appear as a pop-up.
The pop-up will ask if the user would like to sign-in to their account using biometrics. On a Face ID-equipped device, this means signing in with Face ID, while other devices, including Touch Bar-capable MacBook Pros, use Touch ID.
According to the report, when the user visit the iCloud website on a device running the betas, the website will automatically be redirected to the beta version of the website.
However, users can also manually enter the URL in the address bar to try out this new feature.
The website speculates that his nifty new feature is likely part of Apple’s early efforts to test out Sign in with Apple.
In the past, Apple had said that it will make Sign in with Apple tools available to developer this summer, ahead of the feature’s launch in September.
Moreover, Apple, which touts itself as a force for privacy, has long been positioning both Face ID and Touch ID as trustworthy tools. The roll out of these features to iCloud, which was subjected to a major breach a couple of years ago, seems like a logical as Apple users are already familiar to the process. Both the tools already allow users to unlock their devices as well as make purchase with Apple Pay.
