- AGE CORRESPONDENT

Lieutenant-governor Anil Baijal on Friday launched a ‘QR Code Scheme’ (Himmat Plus) for women’s safety at Ajmeri Gate side of New Delhi railway station in the national capital. The aim of this scheme is to enhance the safety and security of women and commuters travelling in yellow or black taxi, autorickshaws, and TSR from railway stations, airport, and Metro stations’ transport range.

Police commissioner Amulya Patnaik, all special commissioners of Delhi police, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) managing director Mangu Singh, DRM of Northern Railway S.C. Jain, and

other senior officials of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) attended the programme.

Several students from Swami Shraddhanand College, Zakir Husain College, Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar College, Mata Sundari College, officebearers

of auto and taxi Unions, and around 1,000 auto-rickshaw and taxi drivers attended the function.

On the occasion, Mr Baijal distributed the QR codes to some of the TSRs and taxi drivers. Around 3,000 auto-rickshaws and taxis are now associated with this initiative of transport range.

Explaining the aim and objective of the scheme, DCP (Railways) Dinesh Kumar Gupta said that the purpose of developing this application is to provide emergency help to the citizens of Delhi at the earliest.

“The citizens can avail this service just by downloading and registering on the app at no cost. Once a user completes the registration, they can avail emergency help in just one click,” said Mr Gupta.

“Women are somewhat vulnerable while travelling and when they board a taxi or an auto-rickshaw. This upgraded app will definitely empower them and boost their confidence while travelling,” the DCP added.
