UNFORESEEN BURDEN
THIS REFERS to Aakar Patel’s article, “Let’s have free movement within SAARC” (Sep. 15). I have to disagree with the writer’s view on allowing unrestricted movement of citizens and goods within SAARC nations. The writer has referred to the free trade agreement existing between the European Union countries as an example to argue for better cooperation between the South Asian ones. But he has forgotten that almost all EU countries have comparable standards of living. Not so in South Asia. If we were to execute a similar plan here, India will be filled with emigrants who would be a burden on our resources.
