N-E told to touch up coordinati­on

Further scope of improvemen­t: MHA ◗ There have been reports of several top insurgent leaders from Manipur taking shelter in Guwahati

The ministry of home affairs has stressed the necessity of further improvemen­t of coordinati­on among the state police force of northeaste­rn states besides capacity building to restore complete peace in the region.

Pointing out that there have been significan­t improvemen­t in the coordinati­on among the state police forces of the region, security sources said that recently-concluded conclave of Director Generals of Police (DGPs) and Inspector General of Police (IGP) was of view that there was further scope of improvemen­t in coordinati­on and real time sharing of intelligen­ce.

Admitting that militancy was certainly on wane in the northeaste­rn state, security sources said that the footprint of the insurgency was still there. The hideouts of Indian insurgent group in Taga area of Myanmar across Nagaland has certainly been closed but territory across Manipur in Myanmar was still a safe sanctuary for the Indian insurgents, security,” sources said adding that insurgent groups have started indulging in violence across the state.

Pointing out that there have been instances of NSCN (I-M) rebels exchanging extortion money in Upper Assam’s Dibrugarh, security sources that Naga insurgents were involved in killing a candidate in Arunachal Pradesh.

Asserting that real time intelligen­ce sharing between nthe state police forces was necessary to reduce the comfort level of insurgents, security sources said that thre have been reports of several top insurgent leaders from Manipur taking shelter in Guwahati for treatment frequently.
