Shah holds meet amid intel of militants’ bid to enter J&K

In view of alerts, restrictions not to be lifted in Valley

In wake of reports that a large number of militants were waiting at launch pads along the border to sneak into India, home minister Amit Shah along with national security advisor Ajit Doval and senior security and intelligence officials reviewed the prevailing situation in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday. Sources said during the two-hour meeting, the focus was primarily on security situation along the International Border and the Line of Control.

Multiple security agencies briefed the home minister and NSA about various measures put in place to maintain security along the border and within the Valley. Senior Army officers over the last few days have claimed that a large number of terrorists were waiting at launch pads along the border to sneak in with active support of the Pakistan Army.

In view of the intelligence inputs, it was decided to maintain “very high level of security along the border to check infiltration.’’ It has been decided not to relax any restrictions particularly on resorting mobile and internet services in the Valley and in areas close to the Line of Control.

Normal life in the Valley has remained disrupted for more than 40 days ever since Centre decided to revoke Article 370 in J&K. Sources claimed that though there was adequate deployment of security personnel in the Valley and along the border, arrangements have been made to rush in reinforcements at a short notice in case of an emergency.
