Indian troops give ‘strong and befitting’ reply
Jammu: An Army jawan was killed when Pakistani troops resorted to firing and shelling along the Line of Control in J&K’s Rajouri district on Friday, a defence spokesperson said. Two jawans were also injured in the Pakistani shelling in Akhnoor sector of Jammu district, officials said. Naik Subash Thapa was injured in the firing and shelling, but later succumbed to injuries.
An Army jawan was killed when Pakistani troops resorted to “unprovoked” firing and shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district on Friday.
Giving the details of the incident, the spokesperson said that the Pakistan Army fired small arms and also motor guns to target the Indian forward posts in Rajouri sector. “This was yet another brazen violation of the ceasefire understanding between the two sides. One of our jawans suffered injuries in the unprovoked action by the Pakistanis and after being evacuated he is receiving treatment at a military hospital,” the spokesperson said.
The Army jawan, identified as 25-year-old Naik Subash Thapa, succumbed to his injuries at the Military Command Hospital in garrison town of Udhampur later, the defence spokesman said.
He added that the Indian troops gave a “strong and befitting” reply to the Pakistani firing and shelling by using the same caliber weapons. “We don’t know if there have been any casualties on their side.”
Later, during the day, skirmishes between the facing border guards took place also in Hiranagar sector of Kathua district along the International Border (IB). The officials claimed that Pakistan Rangers resorted to “unprovoked” firing by small arms in this sector and that the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Indian Army gave “befitting reply” to it. There were no immediate reports of casualties on either side.
