BSY holds close door meeting with top cops
Bengaluru: Karnataka home minister Basavaraj Bommai said that terrorist sleeper cells may be active in the state, namely in Bengaluru and Mysuru. According to him, the NIA suspected that terrorists belonging to Jamat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh were allegedly moving along parts of coastal and interior Karnataka.
Following the reports of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) spreading its tentacles across India and especially in South India, the chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa held a close door meeting on Saturday with top police officials to take the stock of the situation in Bengaluru and other parts of Karnataka.
The CM convened a meeting a day after the Karnataka home minister Basavaraj Bommai told reporters in Mysuru that Friday some terrorist sleeper cells were active in Bengaluru and Mysuru and their activities have intensified in coastal Karnataka as well as the Bay of Bengal.
CM Yeddyurappa discussed the security aspect with Karnataka DG and IGP Neelamani N. Raju, Intelligence wing chief Kamal Pant, City police commissioner Bhaskar Rao and other top police officers.
Meanwhile, security has been beefed up in
Bengaluru, Mysuru and in parts of coastal Karnataka as the law enforcement authorities have prepared to avert and tackle any untoward incidents in the state.
The police are frisking people at public places, gathering information about the suspicious persons and analysing it.
The security was beefed up after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) shared with states concerned a list of 125 suspected activists who have close links with the JMB leadership and revealed that the JMB set up 20-22 hideouts in Bengaluru and tried to spread its bases in South India.
