Woman arrested for killing 81-year-old mother after tiff

A 47-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly killing her elderly mother using an iron rod following a quarrel over her marriage at their house in West Delhi’s Hari Nagar, the police said on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Santosh Bagga (81). Her daughter, Neeru Bagga, who works as an assistant personnel officer at a power discom, has been arrested in connection with the killing, it said.

On Saturday, the police said it was informed regarding an abandoned woman with head injury sitting in front of a residence at Khazan Basti in Mayapuri. Upon reaching the spot, a woman, identified as Neeru Bagga, was found in a hysterical state and was unable to speak

During interrogat­ion, the woman told the police that her mother used to often taunt her over her separation from her husband

properly. The police consoled her and tried to calm her.

Later, the woman told the police that she stays along with her mother, Santosh Bagga, in Hari Nagar. She stated that she had a quarrel with the latter, after which she hit her on the head and left the house, a senior police official said.

Another police team was sent to her residence at Hari Nagar to verify the details, the official said.

Meanwhile, a police official, along with Neeru, reached the house and found the body of her old mother lying in a pool of blood with injuries on her body, the official added.

The woman got divorced from her husband some 13 years ago and since then was staying with her mother at her residence in Hari Nagar.

During interrogat­ion, the woman told the police that her mother used to often taunt her over her separation from her husband and at some occasions even persuaded her to get married again. Fed up with her mother’s constant taunts, the woman allegedly hit her mother with an iron rod.

At their house, the blood stained clothes of accused Neeru were also found, which have been seized and taken into possession, the police said. A case of murder has been registered and the accused has been arrested, it added.
