Aryan’s impressive run continues
Delhi’s Aryan Varshney drew with Mitrabha Guha of Bengal to end his unbeaten run in the sixth round of the National Junior Chess Championship organised by District Chess Association, Gururgam under the aegis of the Haryana Chess Association and All India Chess Federation at Suncity School in Gurugram on Wednesday.
In the sixth round, Guha played the Catalan opening to which Aryan brilliantly responded and drew the match. In the seventh round, Guha played with his own state’s Sirijit Paul and beat him by playing the Caro-Kann Advanced variation opening in just 30 moves. He is at a score of 6.5 and just next in line are Bengal’s Koustav Chatterjee and Delhi’s Aryan Varshney with 6 points.
In the girl’s category, Arpita Srishti Akshiya and Priyanka are leading by seven points in the seventh round. Whereas Akanksha, Nityata Jain, Ritumbra Bidhar, Saina Salonika and Tanishka Kotia are in second place with 5.5 points each.
The nine-day tournament will continue till Saturday. This tournament is of great importance as the national team for the World Championship Tournament to be held next year in India will be selected through this event.
Earlier in girl’s category, Shah Vishawa (1892) of Maharashtra defeated Chetali Sakshi (2185) of her own state. It was an unexpected victory. In the boy’s category, Nitish Belurkar earned 5 points with a victory over Mitrabha Duha (2443) of Bengal in the fifth round.
In another clash of boys’ category, Kaustav Chattarjee (2449) of Bengal defeated Jeet
Jain (2264) of Gujrat, Rajdeep Sarkar of Bengal secured a victory over CB Vishal of Tamil Nadu, Sirijeet Paul (2317) of Bengal thrashed Grahesh (2026) of Andhra Pradesh, Aryan Varnesh (2236) of Delhi defeated Shrihari (2286) of Tamil Nadu, Anuj Shrivatari (2376) of Madhya Pradesh won over Sheyash Shubham Patnaik (1936) of Odisha, Hemant Ram (1992) of Tamil Nadu beat Harshvardhan (2360) of the same state, Suyog Wagh (2273) of Maharashtra defeated Aditya Dhingra of Haryana, Soham Kamatra (2189) of Jammu crushed Harshil Patil (1880) of Maharashtra.
There were some draw matches too in this category. Ayush Sharma (1975) of Madhya Pradesh played a tie with Saurav Anand (2278) of Bihar and Bengal’s Anustup (2154) also played a draw with Sanchay Dubey (2173) of Uttar Pradesh.
