HEALING THROUGH COLOURS

Colours are the smiles of nature — Leigh Hunt

-

Merriam Webster describes colour as “a phenomenon of light (such as red, brown, pink or grey) or visual perception that enables one to differentiate otherwise identical objects.” The colour we see is the part of the visible spectrum that is reflected back by a certain object. Spiritually speaking, colours are one of the most alluring aspects of the physical realm. They impact your mood and feelings and have an impact on your sense of well-being or uneasiness. In fact, you can use colours to promote certain qualities that you wish to emphasise or to heal certain conditions.

All colours possess individual qualities and healing properties. Red symbolises warmth, energy, passion, strength, fortitude and security. It is also associated with aggression. In healing, use red to bring warmth and burn out disease. It is good to increase energy and cure fatigue, colds, chilly and passive people. Red energises the heart and blood circulation, and heightens low blood pressure. It increases sexual desire and also stimulates ovulation and menstruation. Red links with the root chakra. Orange is a warm and cheerful colour. It shows new possibilities in life. It stimulates creative thinking and enthusiasm, and helps assimilate new ideas. In healing, orange enhances immunity and sexual energy. Orange stimulates the lungs, respiration and digestion. It gives relief from muscle cramps and spasms. Orange is associated with the sacral chakra.

Yellow symbolises intellect, creativity, happiness and the power of persuasion. It is inspiring and stimulates higher mentality. It is also associated with cowardice. In healing, use yellow to soothe nerves and bring clarity in thought. Yellow helps strengthen the nervous system, and is an excellent colour for nerve-related ailments. Yellow can be used for conditions of the stomach, liver and the intestines. Yellow links with and stimulates the solar plexus.

My dear readers, I wish that you use colours to promote qualities that you wish to accentuate in your life. You may also use them to bring about healing and well-being. After all, what is life but a box of colours.
