Guha in lead after 9th round

Bengal’s Mitrabha Guha held on to lead with eight points after defeating Grahesh of Andhra Pradesh in the ninth round of the National Junior Chess Championsh­ip at Suncity School campus in Gurugram on Friday. Koustav Chaterjee of Bengal defeated Aakash Dalvi and is currently at second position with a score of 7.5.

After nine rounds of the 11round tournament, Aryan Varshney, Saurabh Anand, Kumar Gaurav, Soham Kamotra and Aradhya Garg shared the third spot in open category with 7 points.

Soham of Jammu defeated Anuj of Madhya Pradesh, Aradhya Garg of Delhi beat Rajdeep Sarkar of Bengal and Kumar Gaurav of Bihar downed Jeet Jain of Gujarat in an interestin­g match.

In the girl’s category, Akanksha and Srishti Pandey are leading with 7.5 points. Priyanka Nuttaki, Monika Akshaya, Priyanka are placed second with 7 points. Arpita Mukherjee, Nitya Jain, Chiralange Sakshi, Ashna Makhija, Bhagyashre­e Patil, Purna Shree and, Supritha Potluri and Rengayanki shared the third place with 6.5 points.

Maharashtr­a’s Akanksha eased past Monika Akshaya of Andhra Pradesh and Srishti Pandey of Maharashtr­a got the better of Nityata Jain of Madhya Pradesh in the ninth round.

Koustav Chaterjee of Bengal defeated Aakash Dalvi in the ninth round and is currently at second position with a score of 7.5
