Govt denied NOC for China visit: Roy
TMC MP raises issue in LS, says wasn’t allowed to attend film fest
Trinamul Congress MP and noted Bengali actress Satabdi Roy on Wednesday sought to know from the Centre the reason behind being declined a ‘no objection certificate’ (NOC) for her China visit last month in connection with a film festival, despite having a valid visa to travel to that country.
Raising the issue during Zero Hour in Lok Sabha, the three time Member of Parliament (MP) from Birbhum sought the speaker’s intervention
into the matter, saying that despite being a lawmaker, she was not allowed to attend a film festival, which was connected to her profession and was not a political engagement.
“When I was applying for the visa to China, I was asked by home ministry and external affairs ministry to seek an NOC. I obtained the visa but was denied the NOC. I faced a lot of harassment while completing the formalities, yet was denied the NOC.”
She further added, “When I sought to know the reason, I was not given a clear reply. Speaker sir I want your intervention in this matter that despite being an MP, I cannot travel abroad. Why is that? What is the reason behind the denial of NOC?,” Ms Roy sought to know.
While raising the matter, the TMC MP apparently tried to make a reference on the Prime Minister but was admonished by the Speaker Om Birla to maintain decorum, amid protests by BJP members.
