BJP, AAP trade charges on quality of water

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

Union health minister Harsh Vardhan on Friday accused Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal of doing politics instead of working on the issue of water quality in the city. Dr Vardhan said that only Mr Kejriwal has questioned the Bureau of Indian Standards’ (BIS) report which stated that drinking water in 13 other cities had also failed quality tests.

Dr Vardhan who is also science and technology minister defended the BIS, in a joint press conference at Delhi BJP office, along with Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari and parliamentarians Meenakshi Lekhi, Parvesh Verma and Vijay Goel. The AAP and BJP are involved in a row over quality of water supply in the city which the BIS report has red-flagged for failing in all quality tests.

Mr Tiwari slammed Mr

Kejriwal saying he has been promising since 2014 to ensure tap water supply in every household but has failed to do so. “The body language of Mr Kejriwal while lying is so convincing that only an actor from National School of Drama (NSD) can match,” said Mr Tiwari showing a video of the chief minister promising piped water supply to every household on various occasions in last five years.

Mr Kejriwal on Friday said he was not interested in politics over the water issue. The chief minister said that his government’s priority is to provide clean water to the people of Delhi. “I don’t want to do politics over the water issue. BJP and the Centre are just doing dirty politics… I want to request through you (media) that if there is any complaint about dirty water being supplied anywhere, the Delhi government will address it.”
