The house of a 53-year-old government employee in Saket was burgled by unidentified persons and gold ornaments worth around `8 lakh were stolen.

According to Sanjay Saxena, joint director of public relation of the Madhya Pradesh government, his wife had gone to their neighbour’s house on Wednesday afternoon when the incident took place. When she returned home, she found the main gate of the house broken.

She grew suspicious and rang the bell, following which the accused locked the gate from inside and fled from the back of the house, Mr Saxena said in his complaint. Subsequently, she called the neighbours and later informed the police.

When the police reached the spot, it broke open the main gate and found that the whole house had been ransacked and three almirahs were broken, the FIR said.

The entire stuff of the almirahs was lying on the bed and floor. The accused fled with cash and jewellery worth `8 to 10 lakh, the FIR said. The forensic team also arrived at the spot and took fingerprints from the house, it stated.

The victim said that they have given all the CCTV footage of the society, in which the accused persons can be seen entering and leaving the colony after the incident and the timing match. “The accused were seen carrying a backpack, which is missing from the house. The faces of the accused can also be seen clearly in the footage,” Mr Saxena said.

A case under Sections 380 (theft in dwelling house) and 454 (lurking, housetrespass or house-breaking in order to commit offence punishable with imprisonment) has been registered at the Saket police station and further investigation is underway, a senior police officer said.
