He said, “All youngsters of this country want that after school, college and university, they should get employment. We ask the Prime Minister what has your government done about it.”

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi Thursday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not talking about the main issue of unemployment and “distracting” people by raising other issues from Jawaharlal Nehru to Pakistan.

Responding to Mr Modi after the PM replied to the debate on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address in the Lok Sabha, Mr Gandhi said that both the PM and finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman had given long speeches in Parliament but had failed to reply on providing employment to the youth.

“All the youngsters of this country want that after studies — school, college, university — they get employment. We asked the PM repeatedly that you (Mr Modi) gave a one-anda-half-hour speech but if you could just spare two minutes to tell the youth about employment and what your government has done about it,” Mr Gandhi said.

He further said that earlier, the government would talk about the economy,

Make in India, USD 5 trillion etc. but now, the PM wasn’t speaking about the biggest issue facing the country and was distracting people by talking about other things, ranging from the Congress and Nehru to Pakistan and Bangladesh. Both the PM and the finance minister had failed to reply on issues like providing employment to the youth and putting the economy back on track.

Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari described the PM’s address in

Parliament as one that oscillated between “standup comedy” and “rank communalism” and said that Mr Modi should apologise for “misleading” the country by quoting Nehru “out of context”.

He also accused Mr Modi of destroying the Indian economy and said that the PM was covering this up by polarising the society.

“It is extremely unfortunate and deeply regrettable that the PM’s comments oscillated between stand-up comedy, half-truths and rank communalism.
