11 killed, 3 hurt in Rajasthan mishap

Jodhpur: At least eleven people were killed and three injured after a trailer truck collided with a Bolero Camper in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur. The dead included a newly married couple who had tied the knot on February 27.

Jodhpur, New Delhi, March 14: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday expressed anguish over the death of at least 11 people in a road accident in Rajasthan.

“I express my condolence­s to the families of those who died in this accident and wish for the speedy recovery of those injured,” the Prime Minister’s Office said in a tweet quoting Modi. At least 11 people were killed and three injured in a road accident in Rajasthan on Saturday.

Eleven people, including a bride and a groom, were killed when the car in which they were travelling collided head-on with a truck near Sointara village in Shegarh subdivisio­n of Jodhpur on Saturday morning, police said.

Those who died included women and children who were accompanyi­ng the newly-weds identified as Vikram and Sita.

The occupants of the car were on their way to Ramdeora from Balotra city of Barmer to pay obeisance at the shrine of famous folk deity Baba Ramdeo, police said, adding three others were seriously injured and taken to a hospital in Jodhpur.

Police, Jodhpur (rural) Rahul Barhat said: “While negotiatin­g a turn on the highway, the vehicle collided with the truck. Eleven people died on the spot and three were injured.”

Police and villagers rushed to the spot and initiated a rescue operation while a crane was used to separate the mangled vehicles and extract the bodies, they said.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot also tweeted his condolence­s saying, “Deeply saddened to learn about tragic accident on Balotra-Phalodi Mega Highway in Shergarh area,#Jodhpur in which 11 people have lost lives. My heartfelt condolence­s to those who lost their loved ones,may god give them strength to bear this loss. I wish speedy recovery to injured.”
