LNORTHEAST MPs’ FORUM INVITES GOGOI FOR GET-TOGETHER

MPs from north-eastern states have a forum of themselves. During the Parliament session every week they meet in one of the MP’s house for an informal get-together.

Next week, on Tuesday they will be meeting in Congress MP Vincent Pala’s bunglow. They have informally decided to invite newly nominated MP, former chief justice of India Ranjan Gogoi who has been nominated by the President. On Thursday, the Congress Party staged a protest inside the house and finally walked out in protest of Mr Gogoi’s oath as MP. Trinamul Congress has formally boycotted the oath ceremony. In this scenario, north-east MPs’ forum is in a dilemma what to do with the invitation to Mr Gogoi. But apparently, Mr Pala thinks that because the forum consists of MPs across political parties, therefore it should not be a political issue as Mr Gogoi belongs to Assam.

MPs DEMAND CENTRAL HALL IN PROPOSED PARLIAMENT BUILDING

ok Sabha Speaker Om Birla convened a meeting of the general purpose committee to discuss about the future plan of the proposed new Parliament building. Leaders of various political parties are members of the committee. This was the second meeting after 11 years. In the meeting, government-appointed architect Bimal Patel gave a power point presentation of the new Parliament building. In the new building, there is no provision of central hall as is present in the Parliament House. There was almost a consensus among the members that central hall is the meeting point of MPs across political parties. The architect tried to convince that all the MPs would be given exclusive rooms. But the leaders insisted that a central hall is needed in the building because that is the tradition of the Parliament.
