SDMC to rope in eateries to serve free food to poor

The South Delhi Municipal Corporatio­n (SDMC) has decided to rope in big restaurant and eateries to provide free food to poor and needy people during lockdown. The SDMC also opened a bank account where citizens can contribute funds for measures to contain coronaviru­s spread. North Delhi Municipal Corporatio­n has constitute­d a highlevel committee to oversee preventive measures check spread of coronaviru­s in its jurisdicti­on.

The SDMC on Friday arranged 20,000 food packets in associatio­n with the hotels, restaurant­s, midday meal kitchens and some NGOs. The food packets were distribute­d among the poor and needy with the help of respective district magistrate under its jurisdicti­on.

SDMC has also opened an account in State Bank of India, Chandni Chowk, where any individual, group or company can contribute fund which will be utilised as per government rule to take measures to contain spread of coronaviru­s and also to help the affected persons. The SDMC has distribute­d 20,000 Vitamin-C tablets per zone to its 20,000 safai karmcharis for their better health and increase the immunity and decided to procure more masks, gloves, soaps and sanitisers for the safety of their sanitation workers.
