Delhi court grants bail to 3 Shaheen Bagh protesters
In order to de-congest jails to prevent the spread of coronavirus, a Delhi court, on Monday, granted bail to three persons who were recently arrested for obstructing police officials while clearing the Shaheen Bagh anti-CAA protest site.
Metropolitan magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh granted relief to Shan Mohammed, Syed Masood Ahmed, and Syed Taseer Ahmed by taking into account the directions of the Supreme Court and the Delhi high court to decongest the already overpopulated prisons.
The court, however, directed them not to mobilise a crowd at the protest site. It also restrained them from posting any opinion regarding the CAA. NPR) and National Register Citizen (NRC) on any social media and instant messengers or give any interview in this regard to print and electronic media.
The trio was released after furnishing a bail bond of `25,000 each and two sureties of the like amount.
In wake of the Covid-19 epidemic, the Supreme Court and the Delhi high court have both passed the directions regarding the de-congestion of the already overpopulated prisons.
The bail application of the three was opposed by the police primarily on the ground that they might mobilise a crowd at the protest site, which could prejudice the maintenance of law and order
and affect adversely the efforts of the state to contain the spread of coronavirus.
The court directed the accused to mark attendance at the Shaheen Bagh police station every Monday at 10.00 am during the investigation of the case and not to visit the site for the purpose of any protest.
The magistrate directed the accused not to tamper with evidence and regularly appear before the court on each and every date of hearing and not leave the country without permission of the court.
