The ring finger advantage for men

A research says men with longer ring finger than index finger can fight the Coronavirus

So, apparently, size does matter… in fighting the coronavirus. Specifically, we mean the size of a man’s ring finger. A report in the UK tabloid, The Sun, quotes a research suggesting that men with ring fingers longer than their index fingers are at a lower risk of dying from Coronavirus.

A study involving 200,000 people across 41 countries showed that male death rates were higher in countries where men had shorter ring fingers.

According to Prof John Manning of Swansea University, this meant that men in Australia, New Zealand and Austria and the East Asian nations, where male ring fingers are longer, had “a biological advantage”.

Apparently, men in England and Wales, who tend to have shorter ring fingers, make up 56 per cent of all deaths.

The professor stated that those exposed to more testosterone in the womb have longer ring fingers. And the testosterone is believed to produce more of ACE2, a compound that helps the body in fighting the virus.

“Our findings may be men with long ring fingers will experience mild symptoms and could return to work,” said Prof Manning.

An earlier report in The Sun also stated that a comparison of the length of the index and ring fingers helped in predicting various aspects about one’s health. Quoting Dr Carl Pintzka, from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, the tabloid said a study by Dr Pintzka showed that men with longer ring finger also exhibited better physical and athletic abilities and the tendency to perform better in spatial tasks.
