New Delhi: A 31-year-old man and his aide allegedly posed as an orthopaedic surgeon and extorted money from women on dating site Tinder. The accused, Anand Kumar and Priyam Yadav (26), both residents of Ghaziabad in UP, were arrested after a complaint was received from a doctor who was conned by Kumar. Kumar had made a fake profile on Tinder and identified himself as one Dr Rohit Gujral after which the victim started talking to him over the phone. Later, he promised her marriage and even made her transfer `30,000 into his bank account. He also blackmailed her with her private pictures and videos. DCP (Cyber Cell) Anyesh Roy said that a team comprising of SI Avdesh, SI Brahm Prakash, SI Kuldeep, and HC Neeraj Pandey, under the supervision of ACP Aditya Gautam, nabbed Kumar who used to run an event management firm and was in touch with aspiring models. Upon interrogation, Kumar disclosed that he got the idea of portraying as a doctor after watching the popular movie ‘Kabir Singh.’ Kumar has been doing this for four months now and has conned many women. A few of them thought that he was “in a difficult situation” but would marry them. One even applied for a `5 lakh loan for Kumar, DCP Roy said.
