Gupta targets slums to expand BJP’s base
■ Will try to end factionalism within party, says new president
A day after he appointed as the president of the Delhi BJP, Adesh Kumar Gupta on Wednesday said he main focus would be to expand the party’s base in slum clusters all across the national capital. In an exclusive interview to this newspaper, Mr Gupta said that he will try to end factionalism within the party by reaching out to all the heavyweights within the organisation.
The former North Delhi mayor said he would assume charge of the party’s city unit in a day or two following which he would announce his new team and effect some changes to strengthen the party.
Mr Gupta said his first priority will be to help people to contain and fight coronavirus after which he would expand the foot print of the party to every nook and corner of the city. “Delhiites are suffering due to misgovernance of chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and that too at a time when the whole world is fighting the pandemic. The Kejriwal government has failed on every front and we will play the role of a constructive opposition to ensure safety of our people. It will be a challenging task to expand and consolidate the party base during COVID 19 pandemic. BJP is a cadre-based party and to give it a new dimension we have to reach out to cluster (slums) areas.” he said adding that organizational activities will start once everything normalizes after the lockdown..
When questioned how will he manage to work smoothly when there are seven Lok Sabha members and others senior leaders, Mr Gupta said he achieve this though ‘sanmvad’ ‘sampark’ and ‘ashirvaad’. “Samvad (dialogue) is key to resolve differences. I will have a regular dialogue with all the MPs and other seniors to get their guidance and support to strengthening the party.”.
Mr Gupta hinted that one would see a reformed Delhi BJP in the coming days as major reshuffle will be effected in the party’s organisational structure.
