An IAS officer of Chhattisgarh government has been accused of raping a woman in his office chamber, police said on Thursday.

Janak Pathak, a 2007batch IAS officer of Chhattisgarh cadre, was on Thursday placed under suspension following a complaint lodged by a woman charging him of raping her in his office chamber recently.

The babu was the district collector of JanjgirChampa in Chhattisgarh when the alleged incident happened. He was transferred as commissioner of land records in Chhattisgarh government a couple of days ago.

The alleged victim filed the complaint in the local police station in Janjgir on Wednesday after she met JanjgirChampa district superintendent of police Parul Mathur to narrate her ordeal.

In her complaint, the woman who was working in a non-government organisation (NGO) alleged that the babu was sexually exploiting her for long, promising her to give her work.

However, the babu allegedly threatened to sack her husband who is a government employee, from service if she snapped links with him, the complaint said.

“A case has been registered under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code and probe was on”, a senior police officer of Janjgir-Champa said.

Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel ordered a probe by state chief secretary R.P. Mandal into the matter while placing the IAS officer under suspension.
