No feet touching in police: MP IGP

- RABINDRA NATH CHOUDHURY

A police officer in Madhya Pradesh has warned cops in his range of disciplinary action if they touched the feet of their seniors while greeting them.

Rewa range Inspector General Of Police Chanchal Shekhar has termed the practice of touching feet of their seniors by some police personnel when they greet them as “most inappropriate” and ordered them to shed the habit.

In letters to superintendents of police in his districts, Mr Shekhar said they should ensure that the practice of bowing down and touching feet of their seniors by police personnel particularly when they are in uniform is done away with.

Even the habit of police personnel greeting their seniors over the phone saying “charan sparsh” (touching feet) must be discouraged, he ordered.

He warned of disciplinary action against the cops who failed to discard such a habit.

Mr Shekhar suggested that the cops should greet their seniors by saying, “good morning or good evening or even Jai Hind.”

Earlier, the police headquarters here warned of disciplinary action against the cops who tried to use political or official influence to get places of postings of their choice.
