Ayushmann or Varun first?

- LIPIKA VARMA

Raaj Shaandilyaa, who made his directorial debut with Ayushmann Khurrana starrer Dream Girl, is busy writing his next hit. Before going to his hometown Jhansi to ride out the nationwide lockdown, he had almost finalised a script and was heading onto the last stage of casting the male lead actors.

“We did not zero down on any one actor though, it could be Ayushmann Khurrana, Vicky Kaushal or Kartik Aaryan,” he shares, adding that he already has another project in place for his Dream Girl lead actor.

“I have written a unique comedy script for Ayushmann and have just spoken to him about the same. I do not believe in narrating the script to him on the phone. Ayushmann is very close to me so obviously we will first narrate the script to him only,” he smiles.

As for the kind of film it is, the filmmaker reveals, “It is not based on a transgender story this time, but it is unique with a message. I want my story to be portrayed in a manner that has not been seen, kind of a story for the audiences. They should find it intriguing as well as relatable.”

Meanwhile, we had also told you recently that Raaj was slated to do a social comedy with Varun Dhawan. When asked about the status of that film, he clarifies, “It’s another film which I shall make sometime later. People just got to hear something and splashed these rumours that we are working together. I am working on the script and I told him that I would let him know. He had liked the thought.”

The director adds that he might have to rehash the film once the COVID-19 crisis is over.

When asked whether he will complete his film with Ayushmann or Varun first after lockdown, Raaj shows that he doesn’t play favourites.

“I will start a film with whoever comes first. We will have to go in accordance with the availability of dates. I have written a lot of scripts. Situations will change and so we have to wait for a good time,” Raaj Shaandilyaa says, matter-of-factly.
