Delhi recorded 613 fresh Covid cases on Monday, the lowest in two months, taking the infection tally in the city to over 1.31 lakh, while the death toll from the disease mounted to 3,853.

The previous lowest daily cases count was recorded on May 26 (412) when the total number of fatalities had stood at 288 and cumulative cases in the city at 14,465.

Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal said that the Covid situation is improving in Delhi with its model being discussed and lauded across India and abroad. He said that the recovery rate in Delhi is 88 per cent at present and only 9 per cent of the people are ill now while 2-3 per cent of patients have succumbed to death.

“There is a decline in the number of deaths,” he added. Of the total 1,31,219 cases in the city, 10, 994 are active and 1,16,372 patients have recovered. The virus-related fatalities

have gone up to 3,853.

Mr Kejriwal pointed out that on one hand, where the cases of corona across the world are rising exponentially, the corona cases

in Delhi are declining at a consistent rate.

“Our recovery rate is 88 per cent and the rate of active cases in Delhi is only 9 per cent, which means that out of 100 corona infected people in Delhi, only nine people are currently infected and 88 people have recovered, and around 2-3 per cent people have lost their lives. The most important thing is that the number of people who lost their lives has seen a drastic decline in the last few days. Yesterday, there were just 21 deaths, and this figure used to be more than 100 in June. Earlier, a sample testing collection of 100 people showed 35 of them to be positive, which has now come down to only 5 people testing positive,” Mr Kejriwal added.

The chief minister further stated that the positivity ratio has also seen a huge decline. Right now, there are around 15,500 beds in the hospitals across Delhi, out of which only 2800 beds are occupied and 12,500 beds remain vacant.

Mr Kejriwal mentioned that in June, Delhi was at the second position in terms of corona cases today it is at the tenth position.
