The Congress government in Rajasthan stuck to its guns on Tuesday and again asked governor Kalraj Mishra to convene an Assembly session on July 31 even as it refused to mention whether it would seek a vote of confidence.

Mr Mishra has already returned two proposals of the state government for calling a session and had, in fact, asked on Monday whether the Ashok Gehlot

government wanted to seek a trust vote, because otherwise, he said, a notice of 21-days needs to be given.

The governor had also sought live broadcast of the proceedings if there was a trust vote and social distancing.

A senior leader of Rajasthan Congress said that the state government has not mentioned in its latest proposal whether it will seek a vote of confidence or not.

Questioned about the agenda of the Assembly session, Rajasthan transport minister Pratap Singh Khachariya said that was for the Business Advisory Committee of the Assembly to decide.

Mr Kachariya said “10 days” have already passed since the government proposed a session and asked why the governor had not given a date himself.

“We want permission to call the Assembly session, which is our right. We don’t want any confrontation with the governor and we hope that he will give his approval this time,” he told reporters after the Cabinet meeting.

“He has no right to be raising queries. Yet we are giving a reply,” the minister said.
