Mumbai: A four-member team of Bihar police has arrived in Mumbai to share information in connection with the suicide of actor Sushant Singh Rajput after his father registered abetment to suicide and cheating case against the actor’s close friend Rhea Chakraborty, in Patna.
Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput death case has taken a new turn with his father lodging an FIR against his rumoured actor girlfriend Rhea Chakaraborty and six others, including her family members, for abetment to suicide, police said on Tuesday.
The late actors father K.K. Singh lodged an FIR with Rajiv Nagar police station under various Sections of IPC, including 306 (abetment of suicide) on July 25, additional SHO Jogendra Kumar told a news agency.
A four-member team of Patna police is in Mumbai for investigation. The Bihar police team met the Mumbai police commissioner and have asked for details in the probe. The Bandra police meanwhile recorded the statement of Dharma Production’s CEO Apoorva Mehta. Sources said Karan Johar may be summoned soon for questioning.
The Bihar police has come to Mumbai with a detailed statement of Rajput’s father, which also stated that Chakraborty withdrew `17 crore from the actor’s bank account. The same will be shared with the Mumbai police while seeking details of the probe.
Mumbai police is already probing the alleged suicide case, and has questioned several Bollywood bigwigs including filmmakers Mahesh Bhatt and Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Rhea Chakraborty has also recorded her statement.
Meanwhile, the Mumbai police grilled Mehta at Amboli police station in connection with the movie Drive that featured Rajput in 2019. Mehta produced a copy of the contract that was signed by Rajput then. The officials sought details of communications between the production house and the deceased actor after that movie and if there were any specific reasons for them not associating professionally again.
The actor, aged 34, was found hanging from the ceiling of his apartment in suburban Bandra in Mumbai on June 14.
Several political leaders and film personalities have demanded a CBI probe into his death.
Rajput’s suspected death by suicide has also triggered a debate on alleged nepotism and favouritism in the Hindi film industry.
