Amitabh Sir is regal, says Ashrita

I’m choosy about roles, the Baahubali 2 actress admits

After having impressed everyone as Anushka Shetty’s sister-in-law in S.S. Rajamouli’s Baahubali 2 — The Conclusion, and subsequently as Vijayamma in Yatra, Ashrita Vemuganti admits that she has been choosy when it comes to picking roles.

“I am just trying to make a sincere attempt to create a quality-driven profile. While Baahubali gave me a golden launch, Yatra (2019) turned out to be a game-changer,” she says, adding, “I am still trying to figure out how the industry functions.” She explained that it took her a while to understand the kind of characters she was being offered.

“But I am glad that I am part of Ravi Teja’s forthcoming film, Krack, apart from hosting a task show, Maatru Devo Bhava, for a regional news channel,” the actress said. Before the lockdown, Ashrita landed an opportunity to work with Amitabh Bachchan in an ad commercial. Revealing the back story, she says, “I got a call from an ad agency in Chennai. They had to reach out to our Baahubali manager for my number. Since I maintain a very low profile, I believe that it is so rewarding to earn merit through work. It took a while for all the names of the cast I heard on that call to sink in.”

Ashrita describes working with Amitabh as ‘great’. “Simply watching him felt surreal because his aura is now part of our collective subconscious clearly. I’d just like to say that everything one has read, heard and seen about Amitabh Sir is true. He is regal,” she gushed. What kept her busy during the pressing times, we ask. “The Lockdown has left me with no excuses regarding pending tasks. I have been focusing on mental and physical health, apart from getting back to my M. Phil research,” she shares, adding that she has been teaching dance online to kids and women.

“It has been an interesting experience; although it has its own set of challenges, teaching dance online was fun,” the Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi exponent signs off.
