Vaani Kapoor debuted on the silver screen with Shuddh Desi Romance in 2013. Touted to be a promising discovery, the actress has had three Hindi releases so far. Interestingly, all are Yash Raj Films, including the upcoming Shamshera. She has starred opposite Sushant Singh Rajput, Ranveer Singh, Hrithik Roshan and Ranbir Kapoor. And now, Vaani is set to work with Akshay Kumar in Bell Bottom. “I’ve tried to pick the best from what came my way and it feels amazing to have worked with some of the best in the industry. I have been able to get such distinctive roles. From Tara, the small-town girl in Shudh Desi Romance to a French girl in Befikre, to an independent single mother in WAR, to a completely different era in Shamshera, it’s been pretty good,” says Vaani, looking back on her journey thus far. “I try and pick roles that are diverse, yet meaningful, and exciting,” she explains.

“However, there are many more films one desires to be part of — genres like action, comedy, romcoms, drama, suspense, thriller — and many more versatile roles to discover,” she adds.

Vaani’s dream is to do a biopic on Kalpana Chawla.

“She’s a huge role model for women around the world and I really want to play her on-screen; it’ll be an absolute honour,” says the Aaha Kalyanam actress, putting herself forward for a part for which the likes of Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone were reportedly considered.

Despite not being a trained dancer, Vaani is an exemplary dancer. “It did require many hours of rehearsals, especially for dance sequences in Befikre. Thankfully, it translated well on screen. People have always appreciated me for my dance and I’m thankful to them for their love. They hugely motivate me to do better,” she says.
