33cr Indian students will keep learning during Covid: Mantri
Union education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal “Nishank”, inaugurating Jindal Global University’s first-ever conference on transforming the university in Covid-19 times on Thursday, said: “The world is facing an unprecedented disruption due to Covid-19, especially in the field of education and learning. But we are committed to ensuring access to education to 33 crore Indian students during this challenging time. Through the onenation one-digital platform, we will guarantee every student remains connected to learning, assuring connectivity and access to every scholar.”
The minister said teachers and professors are indeed “corona warriors” and appreciated the fact that Indian universities turned the Covid-19 challenge into opportunities. Digital learning, online education and the development of several digital platforms, he said, had enabled the higher education institutions to address this crisis. The minister added that the National Education Policy will prove to be a landmark plan for Indians to compete with the best in the world.
The meet was hosted by O.P. Jindal Global University in association with six global education networks. Welcoming guests, JGU’s founding vice-chancellor C. Raj Kumar said: “Today’s conference organised by O.P. Jindal Global University underscores the extraordinary potential for the global community of scholars and educationists coming together to reimagine and transform the future of universities. Universities and higher education institutions have a unique role to play not only in terms of helping us overcome this crisis through the work of scientists and researchers around the world, but also to build the economy, polity and society, while building resilience among young people.”
