Heavy rain batters NCR, causes huge traffic jam

New Delhi: Incessant rain continued to lash Delhi, Gurugram and Noida on Thursday, resulting in waterloggi­ng and slow traffic movement in different parts of NCR. Heavy traffic jams were reported at NarelaBawa­na road, Raja Garden flyover, Kasturba Underpass, MB Rad, Jhandewala­n Mandir, Jhilmil underpass, Azadpur vegetable market, Sarai Pipal Thala, Jahangirpu­ri, Madanpur Khadar, among other places. The Delhi traffic police appealed to residents to avoid the waterlogge­d roads. ■

Following heavy rainfall in the national capital on Thursday morning, waterloggi­ng, parts of house collapsed, falling of trees, and traffic movement at snail’s pace were reported in various major areas across the city. For hassle-free commuting, the Delhi traffic police issued an advisory for the people informing them about the routes with heavy jams.

The water logging issue was reported at Jhandewala­n Mandir on Rani Jhansi Road, M.B. Road at Lal Kuan (both carriagewa­y), Maa Anandmayee Marg near D.D. Motors (both carriagewa­y), G.T. Road at Azadpur Subzi Mandi out gate (both carriagewa­y), Sarai Pipal Thala (both carriagewa­y), Mahindra Park Signal on G.T. Road (both carriagewa­y), Jahangirpu­ri on G.T. Road (both carriagewa­y), and G.T.K. Depot on G.T. Road as per the Delhi traffic police (DTP).

Many residents shared videos and pictures of vehicles plying through waterlogge­d roads on social media.

Meanwhile, civic agencies said that two parts house collapsed due to the

rain in Dakshinpur­i and Malviya Nagar.

Traffic was also affected as trees fell down in many places in the city.

“Falling of trees were reported from Ambedkar Market in Safdarjung Enclave, Pushp Vihar area, Malviya Nagar, C.R. Park, Chhatarpur Mandir Boys School near Chhatarpur Metro station, Hari Nagar area, Tughlakaba­d extension, Sukdev Vihar, Lajpat Nagar area, New Friends Colony, and several other parts across the city,” said a senior civic agency official.

Following the rainfall and waterloggi­ng across the city, the DTP posted alerts on Twitter to inform commuters about waterlogge­d roads.

closed from Mathura Road due to water logging under Pul Pehlad Pur. Obstructio­n in traffic in the carriagewa­y from Satyam towards Kasturba Underpass, Maharaja Surajmal Marg due to water logging at Jhilmil,” the DTP tweeted.

“Traffic on Ring RoadBhairo­n Road was affected due to potholes and traffic going from Ring Road towards Bhairon Road was affected due to the bottle-neck route,” it said in another tweet.

“Traffic movement has been closed on Rajpur Road from both sides due to a fallen tree near P.S. Civil Line. A tree fell down near the railway gate on Narela-Bawana Road due to which traffic is affected,” it tweeted.
