29% Delhiites have antibodies for Covid: 2nd sero-survey
1,215 fresh cases take city’s total tally to 1,57,354
The second serological (sero) survey in the national capital revealed that the percentage of people who have antibodies against the coronavirus disease increased to 29.1 per cent from 22 per cent. Out of these, females had a higher rate of 32.2 per cent, whereas 28.3 per cent of males had these antibodies. The first such survey was conducted between June 27 and July 10. Of those surveyed in that instance, 22.6 per cent had antibodies against the infection.
As many as 1,215 new cases and 22 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours. Of the total 1,57,354 cases in the city, 11,271 are active and 1,41,826 patients have recovered. The virus-related fatalities have gone up to 4,257.
Delhi’s Health Minister Satyendar Jain on Thursday said that 29.1 per cent of people tested in the survey were found to have antibodies present in them, against the coronavirus. The results suggest that a population of about 60 lakhs in Delhi has already
recovered after being infected by the virus. The samples for the survey were collected across all the districts of Delhi, from August 1 to August 7.
“Improvement across districts can be mapped in the range of six to 50 per cent. While the numbers increased only slightly in the North-East District, which already had a fairly high percentage in the previous survey of July, South-East Delhi has shown an improvement of about 50 per cent. Additionally, while 28.3 per cent of males had antibodies present in
them, the percentage of females with antibodies is 32.2 per cent,” said Mr Jain.
Mr Jain pointed out that positive development is that around 29 per cent of people have recovered. “It is relieving to know that nearly 29 per cent of the city’s population has recovered after being infected from the coronavirus. On the other hand, 70 per cent of people have not developed antibodies, which means that they are yet to reach the stage of herd immunity,” Mr Jain added.
