The demise of Sangeet Martand Pandit Jasraj signals the end of an era in the classical musical landscape. His followers pay tribute

Sangeet Martand Pandit Jasraj passed on 17th August. Restricted as they were by the pandemic protocols etc., well- known musicians, family members of the musician and his followers, however, got online across various social media platforms, to pay homage to the legendary artist.

Sunita Budhiraja, who has authored several books including Rasraj Pandit Jasraj and was associated with Panditji for over 38 years, added to the solemnity of the occasion. She collaborat­ed with shehnai player Lokesh Anand, Panditji’s disciple, to bring together on the social media platform many from the music and spiritual fields, who’ve had long associatio­ns with Panditji, to remember the legend and his contributi­ons in the field of classical music.

Another online tribute by Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture ( SPIC MACAY), which had a very long associatio­n with Pandit Jasraj, saw nearly 22,000 live listeners from across the globe logging in to pay their homage.
