Two bodies are yet to be identified but the third body is identified to be that of one Rohit, aged 20. A resident of Kamla Nehru Camp, Rohit is a driver by profession, they said.

Prima facie, it has come to notice that Rohit came to the spot when the fire started to douse it and meanwhile got trapped in the fire and fell in the drain, police said.

According to fire department, a call was received at around 10.50 pm and seven fire tenders were rushed to the spot.

The fire broke out in a small scrap shop near a government liquor shop in Kamla Nehru Camp, Kirti Nagar. Immediately local police and fire tenders reached at the spot, police said, adding the scrap shop was owned by 50-year-old

Tony Mehto, who has been absconding since the incident.

However, the fire from the scrap shop soon engulfed the small shanties made above the shop where family of one Monu, who worked at scrap shop lived. Immediately, the fire was brought under control and most of the family members were rescued, a senior police officer said.

After the fire was doused completely, two unknown bodies, completely charred were recovered from the debris. One unknown body aged about 20 years and another body aged about 810 years, he said.

In continuation of the rescue and search operations being carried out, one more body was recovered from a drain behind the spot. All the injured persons were shifted to hospital for medical assistance, he added.

Deputy commissioner police (West) Deepak Purohit said the exact cause of fire has not been established so far. however, possibilities of a short circuit cannot be ruled out.

“We have registered a case under relevant IPC sections for negligent conduct with respect to fire and culpable homicide not amounting to murder at Kirti Nagar police station. The scarp dealer Tony Mehto is absconding and searches are underway to nab him,” he said.

In Rohini, a woman and a fireman sustained injuries and have been rushed to Ambedkar Hospital for treatment. The fire was in an “Amazon store” located on ground floor of a fivestoried building.

Six persons were rescued from the terrace of the building by the staff of Delhi Fire Service. Out of them, all five are safe but a woman sustained minor burn injuries to her left and right hand, and was rushed to Ambedkar Hospital by CATS, said Atul Garg, Director of Delhi Fire Service (DFS).
