DELHI, DHAKA JOIN EFFORTS TO COUNTER TERROR
Indian and Bangladesh security and intelligence agencies will now appoint nodal officers for “real-time exchange of intelligence and feedback on terror activities” among the two countries. Importantly, security and intelligence agencies of the two countries will now join efforts and resources to work jointly again terror entities, including global terrorist groups.
This collaboration between the two countries will also be extended to other fugitives who have been involved in organised crime in this region.
For this purpose “nodal points or officers” will be appointed or established for timely and effective handling and response to existing as well as emerging security and counter-terrorism challenges.
The decision was taken during a recent virtual meeting of top security and intelligence officials from India and Bangladesh The meeting also discussed ongoing bilateral cooperation, issues of mutual concern and the way forward, it was decided to further strengthen the relationship of the Police forces of the two countries.
“Both sides felt that there was a greater need for sharing of real-time intelligence and feedback through these designated nodal points or officers. So a new mechanism is being put in place for the same to deal with insurgent groups operating in the region,’’ a senior security official said.
During the meeting scope of enhanced coordination to combat trans-border criminal activities, including smuggling of drugs, fake Indian currency notes, arms and ammunition and human trafficking were also discussed.
