‘JB is always game to experiment’

Filmmaker Vidya Sagar Raju talks about his upcoming film, FCUK

- SASHIDHAR ADIVI

The word FCUK seems bizarre as the title of a film. But director Vidya Sagar Raju justifies his choice vehemently. “Father Chitti Uma Karthik (FCUK) are various characters in the film. The hero’s name is Karthik, the heroine is Uma. We have woven a cool drama among these characters,” says Vidya Sagar, adding that the title should reflect the soul of the film. The teaser, which shows actor Jagapathi Babu (JB) becoming a father in his mid-50’s, has already garnered curiosity. “The film is a satirical drama from society’s point of view. It chronicles the hidden behavioural patterns of an individual, and how society perceives these. The narration will be done in a comical way,” adds the director. Vidya Sagar, who has composed more than 500 songs as choreographer, feels that his experience in choreography helped him understand the character of the actors and how to get the best out of them. “When I narrated the script to Jagapathi Babu, he was instantly hooked to the way the character was designed. I realised that he is always open to experimenting. He felt it was a new role which he wanted to explore,” explains Vidya Sagar, who had earlier directed Rachaita. According to him, the most challenging aspect of the film was completing the script. He found it quite a task to end the story in a natural way.

THE FILM LOOKS AT PEOPLE OF THREE AGE GROUPS — INFANT, SON AND FATHER. FOR SUCH UNIQUE SCRIPTS, IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT THERE SHOULD BE A NATURAL ENDING. AND PRODUCER DAMODAR PRASAD GARU’S SUPPORTED ME A LOT DURING THIS JOURNEY
