‘I also believe that being able to balance proper nutrition is another very important part of fitness. What you eat needs to be the right food in the right ratio. In fact, about 60–70% of our fitness quotient leans towards what we put into our body — what we eat and consume — while 30% is the exercise you put in.’

‘Wellness to me is to have peace of mind — to be calm within — and of course, to be aware of your body and to look after it. It also means to be around positive energies, which is with your loved ones.’

With a huge line up of films releasing in 2021, Arjun Rampal also plans to debut as producer on the OTT platform this year. But the 48year-old, who recently turned dad again, looks just as hot as he did when he fired up the fashion ramps. He shares his insights into being fit after 40 (well in his case, close to 50)!

Excerpts from the interview:

Q What does wellness mean to you?

Wellness to me is to have peace of mind — to be calm within — and of course, to be aware of your body and to look after it. Wellness to me means to be around positive energies, which is with your loved ones. And to take that energy forward in whichever direction you move.

Q What is your fitness mantra?

Never skip a day of work out. I kept working even during the COVID period, while I was in Karjat.

Q What’s your take on fitness beyond 40 years of age?

I think nothing much has changed. I train as hard as I used to train earlier. Maybe even harder now because as you keep working out, your body gets used to a certain workout. So you got to change it and up the ante.

Luckily with me, it’s been so far so good. I’ve been able to maintain a very high standard of fitness. I think working out has been one part of it.

I also believe that being able to balance proper nutrition is another very important part of fitness.

What you eat needs to be the right food in the right ratio. So how careful you are with your eating habits, what you put into your body, etc. are all important because all that is fuel for you through the day and for your workout the next day.

In fact, about 60–70% of our fitness quotient leans towards what we put into our body — what we eat and consume — while 30% is the exercise you put in. And if you are careful all the time about your body and what you are consuming, you will automatically feel healthier and better.

Another thing I advise people to do is drink a lot of water.

Q What does Arjun eat?

I eat a lot of greens in a great balance — like vegetables. Proteins for me mostly come from fish or chicken. And then you can have some good fats like peanut butter and oats, all of which are very important for your cells for rejuvenation and to keep your body strong and light and strengthen the muscles.
