Drones’ demonstration by Army a message to our adversaries: Gen. Naravane
‘Capable to destroy target sans physical hit’
Indian Army Chief General M.M. Naravane said on Thursday the “swarm drone” demonstration last month was a message to adversaries that “the Indian Army is steadily inducting niche capabilities to enhance its combat proficiencies in multi-domain operations”.
“Some of you would recall the swarm drone offensive striking multiple targets showcased during the Army Day Parade last month. Such swarms can overwhelm and effectively suppress enemy’s Air Defence Capability, creating windows of opportunities for our strike elements, “said Gen. Naravane during a webinar on Multi-Domain Operations: Future of Conflicts.
He pointed out that it is also no longer necessary to score a physical hit to destroy a target. “Offensive capabilities in the digital domain can effectively neutralise satellites and networks, denying them at critical juncture to decisively alter the course of the conflict,” said the Army chief.
For the first time at the annual Army Day parade, Indian Army last month demonstrated its offensive swarm drone capability by taking down a slew of supposed “targets” like tanks, terror camps, fuel dumps and a “suddenly” found helipad. The demonstration involved 75 indigenously developed drones which working autonomously located and destroyed these targets. The baby Kamikaze
drones detached from the mother drones and directly hit these targets in a suicide mission. These drones could travel upto 50 kilometers to destroy enemy targets. These drones used in the demonstration could also be used to drop emergency supplies to the soldiers.
