‘Work on Salem expressway will begin in 2021-22’

Participat­ing in the BJP youth conference at Kejalnayak­anpatti here on Sunday, Union defence minister Rajnath Singh said, “The Modi-led government has managed the Corona period very well. We have also found a vaccine for Covid-19 infection and are providing it to friendly countries. From the viewpoint that the entire world is one family, akin to the “Vasudeva family”, we are also sending vaccines to other countries to help them against Covid19. We faced economic impacts from the epidemic. We have allocated `1.70 lakh crore for the poor, and are providing relief to 80 crore people.”

An amount of `6,000 per annum has been deposited in the bank accounts of farmers under the Prime Minister’s agricultur­al scheme. The Centre is also implementi­ng various welfare schemes like toilets being built in individual homes to eliminate the practice of manual scavenging and open defecation, housing for the homeless, and building roads. Safe drinking water is to be provided to every household under the “Jal Jeevan” scheme. So far, three crore families have been provided with safe drinking water.

Work on the SalemChenn­ai expressway project will begin in 2021-22 which will improve the infrastruc­ture in that part of the state,” added Mr Rajnath. “Military infrastruc­ture is being strengthen­ed in the states of Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, for which projects worth `8,000 crore are to be implemente­d. At present, 21 private companies and three government companies have raised `1,100 crore in capital towards this,” he said.
