New Delhi: The Union home ministry is working on a new scheme to offer more incentive, in terms of faster promotion and additional increments, to all IPS and IAS who opt for posting in the newly-created Union territory of J&K and Ladakh.

Union home ministry is working on a new scheme to offer more incentives, in terms of faster promotion and additional increments to all IPS and IAS officers, who opt for posting in the newly created Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.

Centre had recently placed both J&K and Ladakh in the Union Territory for Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre for placement of central services officers like IPS, IAS etc.

Ministry officials said Centre was keen that some of the best IPS and IAS officer should volunteer for deputation to J&K and Ladakh since these have been newly created UTs which require more focus on growth and development.

“We are working out a scheme where additional incentives and benefits would be given to all officers who opt to work in J&K and Ladakh. The incentives would be in form of faster promotions, additional increments and recognition in form of meritorious and gallantry service. Though we feel there would be any shortage of officers but the idea is to attract the best possible talent for J&K and Ladakh so that we can out these newly created Its on faster growth trajectory,” a senior home ministry official said.

Centre had last month issued an ordinance to merge the earlier Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) cadre of All India Services Officers such as the IAS, IPS and the Indian Forest Service with the Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre.

Officers from this cadre are posted in Union Territories like Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Puducherry, Dadra Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu and Lakshadweep, Chandigarh.

But from now on these officers in J&K and Ladakh while officers from the earlier J&K cadre can be posted in different UTs.
