IN GOOF-UP, HINDU VICTIM LAID TO REST IN MUSLIM BURIAL GROUND

A 51-year old Hindu coronavirus victim, was buried and accorded last respect as per Muslim custom in a village near Bhuvanagiri in Cuddalore district on Wednesday.

The tension was palpable when his relatives reached the Muslim burial ground with a body of Zahir Hussein, 50, of Perumathur near Bhuvanagiri and attempted to retrieve the body of the Hindu man. Relatives of both the Covid-19 victims had a harrowing time after they came to know about the goof-up.

Zahir Hussein had been admitted to the government general hospital, Cuddalore, after he was detected with the virus. Similarly, Arumugam of Pudupet near Panruti was also admitted at the hospital for Covid-19. Zahir Hussein and Arumugam died in the hospital on Tuesday night.

On reaching home, Arumugam’s relatives noticed the goof-up as the body was not that of Arumugam. Immediately, they alerted the hospital authorities.
