5 dead in Covid hospital fire in Chhhattisg­arh

A major fire broke out in a private Covid hospital here, killing five patients.

While one Covid-19 patient succumbed to burn injuries, four others died due to disruption of oxygen supply caused due to the mishap, officials said.

Relatives of the patients were seen breaking the glass windows to enter the wards to rescue the patients.

Many patients were brought outside the hospital and administer­ed oxygen. Later, they were shifted to different hospitals in the city.

Chhattisga­rh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel expressed shock and grief over the tragic incident and announced financial assistance of `4 lakh each to the next kin of the deceased.

Around 30 Covid-19 patients were undergoing treatment in the hospital when the incident took place, police said.
